SUMMARY:ERUA Conference – Call for abstracts
DESCRIPTION:The European Reform University Alliance (ERUA) invites you to submit your abstract. The conference investigates the role of alternative and experimental forms of higher education and research in a time of challenges: expanded student populations\, technological disruption\, the emergence of a global  market of higher education\, and the growth of social inequality and anti-scientific sentiment. We ask: How do – and how should – these challenges reconfigure the role of the university in the world? Why do we need universities today? \nThe conference will address this question by focusing on three themes\, 1) universities and internationalization\, 2) challenges to teaching\, and 3) responsible research. \nWe are inviting papers and panels that explore these themes as well as innovative examples of teaching and research practices. We welcome submissions in diverse formats and across disciplines that might encourage \n interactive formats which facilitate audience engagement. We welcome proposals from researchers\, educators\, students and practitioners. \nAbstracts (max. 250 words) should be uploaded here: \nhttps://events.ruc.dk/abstractserua2023/signup \nNo later than April 15th  \nIf you are interested in chairing a panel or participating in the selection of papers\, please contact the chair of the relevant stream \nWe look forward to hearing from you! \nRead more at: https://events.ruc.dk/abstractserua2023/conference \n

SUMMARY:3rd ERUA Exiles 2.0 Seminar
DESCRIPTION:3rd ERUA Exiles 2.0 Seminar\, University of the Aegean\, May 10-12\, 2023 \nFollowing the successful collaboration between P8\, RUC and the University of the Aegean within the WP2 Activity for Innovative Joint Initiatives in Teaching & Learning in 2022\, Exiles 2.0 was launched in 2023\, with three seminars hosted by each university\, focusing once more on the refugee communities and their social reception. \nThe groups of students\, academics and researchers worked in P8 on the issue of the reception of refugee or asylum-seeking children\, and more specifically\, on the issue of hospitality. In RUC\, they focused on different types of social vulnerability\, more extensively on vulnerability caused by\nethnicity/race\, class and gender. In Lesvos\, they will focus on the communities that served as receptors during the period of the refugee crisis on the island\, looking closer at Moria\, Molyvos and Mytilene. \n  \nThe seminar focuses on issues of vulnerability\, exile subjects and the question of agency in those kinds of communities.\nWe seek to propose an enriched methodological synthesis\, grounded on empowering and active social research that seeks to critically address questions of power relations\, gender inequalities\, class and ethnic asymmetries.
