Action for e-learning4eskills & Career Development Centre for the UAegean Early Career Researchers
The University of the Aegean, in a time of radical and rapid transformations that may exacerbate regional inequalities, can promise Scientific, Technological Progress and Excellence for the future, to achieve interregional Innovation in the insular communities of the Aegean Archipelagos.
The main objective of this action is to create a modern learning system that will provide substantive and quality reskilling and upskilling opportunities, primarily for the early career researchers (Ph.D candidates) of the University of the Aegean, with the aim of empowering their skills and designing their career paths in a flexible and effective way.
The UAegean Career Development Center aims to contribute to the improvement of skills and abilities not only for the early career researchers, but also for the entire human capital of the university, through reskilling and upskilling opportunities, in order to meet new challenges and adapt to the changes brought about by technological transformation. In the context of the Career Development Centre’s operations, partnerships and connections are created with central services of the institution (such as the Continuing Education and Lifelong Learning Center and the Liaison Office), the national and European network Euraxess, the European Alliance of European Universities ERUA, and other networks in which the University of the Aegean participates.
In this digital space, the early career researchers (Ph.D candidates) of the University of the Aegean are presented, and their research identity and work are highlighted separately. At the same time, there is interaction and communication among them, as well as with regional bodies and organizations for the collection of research data, application/testing of experimental results, provision of advisory services and networking, exchange of opinions on research topics, and new interdisciplinary projects.
In parallel, a range of information and tools are offered to find funding opportunities, collaborations, trainings, educational activities and scientific research events.
The first “Annual Celebration of the early career researchers of the University of the Aegean” is also scheduled to take place in June 2023 (on an annual basis and at the regional level of the Northern and Southern Aegean), aiming to bring together doctoral candidates from all scientific fields of the University of the Aegean, to present their research activity, not only to the academic community but also to the broader insular communities. The meetings will be organized every year and will be independent of the progress presentations defined by the respective departmental regulations of doctoral studies, with the ultimate goal of the interaction among the candidates, sharing research activities, and presenting the impact of their research on the social, productive, and developmental fabric of the Aegean Archipelagos. The meetings will provide an opportunity for the insular communities of the two regions of the Aegean Archipelagos to become familiar with the research produced in their areas and to achieve collaborations and partnerships with the new research capital and the islanders.
